A sub-genre of grunge which incorporates both the loud, dirty guitar sounds and simple riffs of the grunge movement with such progressive rock techniques as frequent time signature changes and parts of songs written in 'modes' instead of keys.

It is significantly different from the original grunge movement, in the sense that the pop hooks have been replaced with alternative-pop hooks.

Like Grunge, progressive grunge is considered an underground movement which has recently had a global rise in popularity. Particularly in The US, Australia and Europe.

Unlike Post-Grunge which was condemned by Grunge fans world-wide, progressive grunge has been welcomed whole-heartedly by the flannel wearing community.
The following bands identify as being of progressive grunge...

Australia -

Inca (Brisbane, Aus)
Burning Mirrors (Brisbane, Aus)
Sonic Porno (Brisbane, Aus)

United States -

Metamorphis Charm (Seattle, US)

Europe/UK -

Sjael (Copenhagen, DK)
